2nd Grade News...
Happy Spring! This is an exciting time of year in first grade! Just like caterpillars transforming into beautiful butterflies, our first graders are becoming fluent and independent readers and writers. It is so fun to listen to them read, and to hear the stories that they have written! We are currently focusing on writing informative pieces that include topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding statements. They have really come a long way since the beginning of the year!
In reading, many of our students have begun using the Accelerated Reading Program, which allows the children to be challenged at their individual reading levels. The kids are excited to be using a computer program that the “Big Kids” at Cooper use!
In math, the children are working on Common Core math units that includes concepts around geometry and fractions, plus adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. We are also continuing to work on solving addition and subtraction problems to 20 and memorizing the math facts to 10.
On March 31st, we took a walking field trip to the Performing Arts Theater to see the play, “Charlotte’s Web”. The children had a wonderful time! A “BIG” Thank you to all of our parent volunteers for making our field trip a success!
Spring Pictures coming home soon!
